Debate

Myles is taking a debate class this semester. His current topic that he is researching is the "Right to Die". This has opened up some interesting conversations (to say the least). So I thought I would put this topic out there and get your feedback. Be a sport and leave a comment to help Myles strengthen his debate info. You can even leave the comment anonymously if you are shy about it.

That question is somewhat loaded!
My opinion, taking my religion out of the equation: if a person is terminally ill and has decided they do not want any extraordinary attempts to prolong their life I believe they are entitled to make that choice. On the other hand if they decided to have themselves euthanized - I believe that is akin to suicide.

Is life without quality truly living? I know a person that lived on life support with a ventilator and trach. The person could do everything but move. After 5 years the person decided that it wasn't a quality life and signed to have his doctor shut off his ventilator. He died 3 hours later. That happens more often than you think.

God decides when we live and die. That's all there is to it.

Good luck in the debate Myles!!!

i don't believe that suicide is the way out. However, i do think that if someone has been living with a terminal disease and has been fighting and fighting and doesn't want to fight anymore, it is their right. if it were my loved one that wanted to do this i would be devistated, i would want them to continue to fight. However, it would be my selfishness that i wouldn't want them to give up. I suppose it is all circumstantial.
